We have one child who can’t stand red sauce on her pizza or pasta. I can not stand the taste (or questionable ingredients) of store-bought white sauce, so for us, a good white sauce recipe is a staple. This sauce is creamy and full of flavor. It uses simple ingredients we almost always have on hand making it a great option for a last-minute dinner.
I also love the flexibility of this recipe. It makes a great sauce for pasta, gnocchi, and pizzas, although we could all eat it out of a bowl with a spoon.
To make this sauce heat a pan with olive oil over medium heat, add the garlic, and stir until fragrant. Add the flour and seasonings. Stirring continuously and cooking for about a minute. Then whisk in your milk or half and half. Continue to whisk until the sauce thickens. That’s it. Really, it’s that easy
Garlic White Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Olive oil or butter
- 1.5-2 Tbsp Garlic minced
- 1 Tsp Oregano or basil
- 4 Tbsp Flour
- 2 Cups Half & half or milk
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil over medium heat. Once warm add the minced garlic, stirring continuously & cook until fragrant. Lower the temperature to medium low.
- Sprinkle the oregano or basil followed by the flour still stirring continuously. cook for about a minute.
- Whisk in the half & half, stirring until the sauce is thickened. Salt & pepper to taste. Serve immediately. If sauce thickens to much add a few tablespoons of milk & whisk.
